Google DeepMind researchers Raia Hadsell, Diego Rivas, and Hang Qi announced Genie 4 on Tuesday, introducing the lab’s first real-time interactive world model capable of natively generating synchronized ambient audio, music, and interactive human dialogue alongside photorealistic physical environments, according to the Google DeepMind blog.

Built on capabilities from the Gemini model family, Genie 4 uses Gemini Omni to anchor simulations in real-world visual appearance and physical behavior—including aerodynamics, collisions, and responsive human character motion—while users navigate via keyboard controls and steer scenes in real time using natural language prompts.

Closed-Loop Reasoning With Gemini 3.8 Flash and Gemini 4 Argon

To model complex, multi-step causal events without losing scene continuity, DeepMind paired Genie 4 with Gemini 3.8 Flash as a guiding agent in the loop: as Genie 4 renders frames in real time, Gemini 3.8 Flash continuously observes the scene, decomposes goals into sequential steps, and verifies that each step succeeds as users intervene.

In parallel robotics research, DeepMind combined Gemini 4 Argon with Genie 4 and Gemini Robotics to simulate Apptronik’s Apollo humanoid robot playing a game of checkers—with Argon breaking a user-instructed task into interleaved text captions that steer Genie 4’s real-time rendering toward task completion.

SynthID Watermarking and Rollout to Project Genie and Gemini API

All video and audio generated by Genie 4 carries Google’s imperceptible SynthID digital watermark. DeepMind noted that long-term object permanence, legible text rendering, and spatial consistency over extended sessions remain active research challenges. Genie 4 is currently rolling out as a research preview to trusted testers across film pre-visualization, photojournalism, game prototyping, and enterprise simulation, with broader access coming to Google AI Ultra subscribers in Project Genie and early-access partners in the Gemini API and Google AI Studio.
