OpenAI Merges ChatGPT Work Into Chat and Doubles Pro 100, 200, and 500 Quotas
In a subscriber email reviewed by BleepingComputer, OpenAI announced that it will test a combined experience merging the Chat and Work tabs in the coming weeks, starting with a small group of users before a broader rollout.
The unified workspace allows users to transition from exploratory prompts to multi-step execution in 1 place — bringing in files and plugins to build websites, generate presentations, and execute web tasks while reviewing and guiding ChatGPT's work. OpenAI noted that Codex will remain a standalone experience inside the ChatGPT desktop application.
Alongside the interface update, OpenAI is unifying subscription quotas across ChatGPT and Codex:
- Shared Usage Pool & Unlimited Instant: Both ChatGPT and Codex will draw from a single combined allowance viewable under Settings > Usage, where subscribers can monitor remaining quota and reset times, upgrade plans, or purchase extra credits. Standard Unlimited Instant conversations remain included in the subscription and do not count against the shared limit, while advanced reasoning models and complex tasks consume more allowance.
- Doubled Pro Tiers Effective Oct. 29: OpenAI confirmed that it already doubled Work and Codex usage allowances for its Pro 100, Pro 200, and Pro 500 subscription tiers effective Oct. 29.
