Commerce Department Vetting Questioned After Nvidia H200 Approval for New Matrix

Federal oversight of advanced artificial intelligence hardware is facing renewed scrutiny after the U.S. government approved sales of Nvidia’s H200 AI chips to Chinese firms with ties to blacklisted entities. According to reporting by The New York Times cited by The Verge weekend editor Terrence O'Brien—who has covered the tech industry for over 18 years—Chinese firm New Matrix appears on the U.S. Commerce Department's list of approved buyers despite having been created 17 months ago with scant online presence. When reporters visited the industrial park address listed by New Matrix, the building directory did not include the company, a receptionist and manager at the nearby property management agency said they had no record of it, and the office itself was an empty gray shell with wires dangling from the ceiling.

Investigators noted that New Matrix's owners have ties to a Chinese private equity firm blacklisted by the U.S. government since 2024 under national-security trade restrictions. While Nvidia had been restricted from selling advanced AI chips to China during the Biden presidency, those limits were relaxed under the Trump administration after Nvidia agreed to give the U.S. government a 15% cut of all sales.

Three House Committees Request Briefing on Megaspeed Executive Alice Huang

In a parallel disclosure, multiple reports citing a U.S. intelligence memo circulated earlier this year claimed that China’s Ministry of State Security (MSS) recruited technology executive Alice Huang to spy on Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang. According to The Verge’s coverage of the findings, Alice Huang is an executive at Singapore-based Megaspeed—an Nvidia customer—and maintains relationships with executives at the highest levels of the AI chip industry, including leaders at Gigabyte.

The intelligence memo reportedly stated that China's MSS enlisted Alice Huang to gather information about American AI chips and potentially influence Nvidia to push for its most advanced chips to be made available to China. While President Trump was briefed last year about the relationship between Alice Huang and Jensen Huang (who are not related) and took no action, 3 U.S. House committees asked Jensen Huang on Thursday to appear for a joint, closed-door briefing on his interactions with Alice Huang. An Nvidia spokesperson told The New York Times that Jensen Huang’s interactions with Alice Huang were "not unusual," adding that Nvidia does not share classified information with its customers and sells "the first, best and most of our technology in America."

CTM360 Exposes 1,000+ Fake Gift Card Scams Using "Trap 10" Verification Loops

In consumer cybersecurity, threat intelligence researchers at CTM360 documented more than 1,000 incidents linked to a modular affiliate fraud campaign that impersonates major retail and gaming brands including PlayStation, Sephora, SHEIN, Walmart, and Amazon. Distributed through sponsored social media ads, viral giveaway posts, and fabricated endorsements from high-profile influencers such as MrBeast and Alix Earle, the fraudulent portals display cloned brand logos, live countdown timers, and partially masked reward codes (such as XXXX-XXXX-7F3A-XXXX).

Before revealing the final digits, the portals divert users into a deceptive "Human Verification" gate that CTM360 classifies as "Trap 10." Rather than unlocking a gift card, the verification loop routes victims through affiliate tracking URLs (passing parameters such as offer_id and aff_id) that push users to complete surveys, install third-party applications or browser extensions, and enroll in recurring paid mobile subscriptions via carrier-billing PIN and OTP confirmation. Across all flows tested by CTM360, 0 rewards were delivered.

JSC Ingenium Presents Unified 5G SA Core and BSS Platform for CBRS Operators

Rounding out infrastructure disclosures, global 4G and 5G Core and Business Support Systems (BSS) vendor JSC Ingenium presented its unified cloud-native platform for independent U.S. internet service providers during the 4-day WISPAPALOOZA 2026 conference at Booth 331 in Caesars Palace, Las Vegas. Founded in 1996, JSC Ingenium allocates more than 45% of its technical resources to research and development and maintains operational deployments across 20 countries—including Spain, Italy, France, and the United Kingdom—serving more than 700 brands worldwide.

Americas Sales Director Freddy Lara and Chief Sales Officer Juan Carlos Buitrago detailed how the architecture combines a 5G Standalone (SA) Core Network and BSS without a separate integration layer, enabling regional U.S. Wireless ISPs (WISPs) holding Citizens Broadband Radio Service (CBRS) spectrum licenses to launch mobile and Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) services with revenue-aligned scaling and lower operational overhead than Tier-1 carrier deployments.
